Talk:Bar Codes
From LabAutopedia
An additional key point is barcoding errors. In my experience these include:
- To the left and right of barcode pattern are the quiet zones of the barcode. These quiet zones have to be present, but the width of the quiet zone is dependent on the barcode reader. A major problem can be when the barcode just fits on the label and there is not enough space for the required quiet zone. The barcode then sees the shadow of the label on the container as an additional barcode element. This confuses the barcode reader and leads to a failed read.
- Smudged and poorly printed barcodes where the barcode reader can't distinguish the black and white elements.
