Stem cells have been used to generate cells of various organs with the possibility of repairing organs or even growing replacement organs. In a new report, mouse gum cells were used to form three layer skin cells. When transplanted to animals the skin grew and took on all the properties of normal skin. The researchers hope that this can be used to help burn patients recover as well as testing cosmetics.
