What is a Higgs Boson?
by Fermilab, posted in summer of 2011, one year before the discovery
Fermilab scientist Don Lincoln describes the nature of the Higgs boson. Several large experimental groups are hot on the trail of this elusive subatomic particle which is thought to explain the origins of particle mass.
In Summer 2012, CERN had strong reason to believe that they had actually found the Higgs Boson.
Science in the news: The discovery of the Higgs Boson
It is seldom that science becomes a major news story or catches the attention of the public, but that happened recently with the discovery of the Higgs boson. The event was covered by the popular media such as television news, magazines and interviews with leading scientists. This is even more surprising since understanding particle physics and the role of the boson is not an easy concept to grasp for people not in the field.
